A Thematic Map is a type of map especially designed geographic Area.These maps can show Physical, Sociological, Agriculture or any other type of a city, State, Region, Nation, or Continent. Thematic map shows the spatial distribution of one or more specific data themes for selected geographic areas. All thematic maps are composed of two important elements: a base map and statistical data.
Thematic maps can be used for exploratory spatial data analysis, confirming hypotheses, synthesizing spatial data by revealing patterns and relationships, and data presentation.
Six types of Thematic maps:- These are
1. Choropleth Map
2. Graduated Symbol Map
3. Dot Map
4. Cartograms (or density equalized map projections)
5. Dasymetric Map
